Appendix is a small tube like structure located at the lower right portion of the abdomen. It is attached to the large intestine, which is also known as colon. This organ is similar to small finger. It function is not yet discovered and its removal does not create any problem in the human body.

Inflammation of the appendix is known as appendicitis. There is no proper medical therapy for the appendicitis. If the treatment of the appendix is delayed for long time, then it may burst and cause infection in intestine, which at last result in person’s death. So appendix is a medical emergency and it should be treated as soon as possible. Appendicitis is the most common acute surgical emergency of the abdomen.

Appendicitis can be happen to any body but the person who has the family history has more risk especially in males. It often occurs between the age group of 10 to 30.
