There is no particular treatment of appendicitis at home. If the condition is severe then call the doctor immediately and reach the hospital as soon as possible. Don’t eat and drink as it may complicate the case as well as delay the treatment. Do not take any medicine or pain killers as it may risk the rupture of the appendix and create difficulty in diagnosis.

After the diagnosis of appendicitis, an appendectomy is usually performed and antibiotics are always used before the surgery is begun. Inflammation and Infection of appendicitis generally remain mild and localized to the small area. In that cases patient generally are not very ill and improve after the treatment with antibiotics alone. This type of appendicitis is referred to as “confined appendicitis” and in that case the appendix may not remove at later time.

Some times a person may not visit to their doctor until appendicitis with rupture has been present for many days or even weeks. In this case, an abscess usually has formed, and the appendiceal perforation may have closed over. In this case we can initially use antibiotics, if the abscess is small. However, the abscess usually requires drainage so a drain of small plastic or rubber tube usually insert through the skin with the help of an ultrasound or CT scan which can be used to determine the exact location of the abscess. This drain allows the pus to flow from the abscess out of the body and then after the several weeks appendix may be removed from the body. This is called an interval appendectomy.
