It is true that every one can not understand the causes of each and every cancer but there is only one cancer that is easily understandable than any other cancer i.e. bowel cancer. Bowel cancer mainly arises due to the dietary factors and genetic factors.

Dietary factors

Those who are having high fiber intake can get less risk of bowel cancer. Experts have said that the vegetable fiber is highly safeguarded and protective than cereal fiber. Their studies have also said that the particular chemicals in vegetables, like isothiocyanates, that provide brassicas (cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower) their features strong taste, may be a shield factor from cancer. The high calorie intake and obesity are also one of those risk factors for bowel cancer. Moreover a high intake of red meat is also related with increased risk. The nutritive diet charts that can lower down the risk of having bowel cancer are:

  • A diet rich in green vegetables, especially cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts or cauliflower.
  • A diet less in red meat. Try to ignore burnt meat including cancer-promoting chemicals known as cyclic amines.
  • Have a normal body weight and take regular exercise.
  • The aspirin can also lower down the risk by around 50 per cent. However, the long time use of aspirin can develop the risk of intestinal ulceration and bleeding.

Genetic factors

Around 10 per cent of bowel cancers have a high genetic factor and the most common is hereditary non-polyposis colon cancer (HNPCC or Lynch syndrome). This situation is happened because of the alteration in any one of five different genes which contain directives for making proteins to revamp dented DNA.

Those who develop bowel cancers generally affect them as flat cuts rather than as polyps. The cancers mostly affect the proximal (right sided) colon, while other cancers develop in the distal colon nearer the rectum or rectum. Patients with ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease of the colon are five times more likely to develop bowel cancer. The chances of getting it are greater if the colitis seen in both situations affecting the whole colon.
