Antibiotics may not work in most cases of diarrhea as diarrhea mostly results due to viral infections. Even severe diarrhea may also be cure in few days without using antibiotics. Some times use of antibiotics makes the situation worse especially in the case, when diarrhea is caused by E coli bacteria.
Antibiotics, can be used in case of adults with diarrhea but only if they are recommended by medical practitioners. Careful selection of antibiotics sometimes decreases the severity and duration of diarrhea.
As we said above acute and diarrhea of short duration do not required antibiotics. Diarrhea cause due to bacterial infections even not required antibiotics in most of the cases. Antibiotics are generally used when a person is suffering severe and reoccurring diarrhea, suffering from some other disease of heart, lungs etc., have traveler’s diarrhea and when stool examination discloses more serious bacterial or parasite infections.

Yes I agree you should not take antibiotics for diarrhea especially because the body wants to rid itself naturally of whatever is the culprit. On top of the fact antibiotics throw off the natural flora of the intestines and actually CAUSE diarrhea for a lot of people.
