Diarrhea generally becomes more complicated when it leads to dehydration. Excessive loss of fluids and minerals from the body results in dehydration. Dehydration is common among both adult and children. Patient with acute diarrhea have large amounts of stool, and vomiting. Viral gastroenteritis or bacterial infection is the cause of dehydration among infants and young children.

E. coli bacteria are one of the causes of acute diarrhea. There are different kinds of E.coli bacteria in which some are pathogenic and some are non-pathogenic. Generally most of the bacteria are non-pathogenic and reside in intestine and colon.
