Basically there are four types of diarrhea. They are osmotic diarrhea, secretory diarrhea, motility-related diarrhea and inflammatory diarrhea.
- Osmotic diarrhea - Generally occurs when there is an excessive loss of water due to osmotic load. This can occur when there is maldigestion such as celiac disease or pancreatic disease where the nutrients are left in the lumen.
