Ways To Prevent Diarrhea

There are various measures that can be taken to prevent viral diarrhea from spreading. Some of the personal care precautions are as follows:

  • Adults should carefully wash their hands after changing diapers and children should be instructed to wash their hands after using the bathroom.
  • Viral diarrhea usually spread easily, so if a child is having diarrhea, they should be kept at home.
  • Practice safe food handling while preparing raw poultry or meat.
  • Food should be always cooked at recommended temperature. Raw food, such as fruits and vegetable should always be rinsed in clean water.
  • Always use pasteurized dairy products and fruit juice.
  • The utensils coming in contact with raw food should be cleaned in shop and clean water.

Diarrhea commonly affects the people who are travelling to developing countries. It may be due to inadequate sanitation or contaminated food as well as water. To stay away from such risk:

  • Eat well cooked food and avoid dairy products.
  • Avoid eating food from street vendor.
  • Avoid tap water, ice cubes.
  • Ask your doctor for antibiotics or bismuth subsalicylate, since this type of medication can significantly reduce the odds of diarrhea while travelling.
