Before understanding the meaning of bowel cancer we have to first know what is bowel? Bowel is the part of our digestive system. Bowel itself is further divided into two parts first the large bowel and second the small bowel. This large bowel is further consisting of colon and the rectum.
When the food ingest, it moves down the gullet to the stomach, where the actual digestion process begins. Then it passes through the small bowel where the nutrients are absorbed into the body and after that digested food moves to the larger bowel where water is absorbed by the colon. Colon is further divided into parts known as ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon.
Ascending colon starts at the bottom, right hand side of the abdomen. Transverse colon then goes across the left side of the abdomen. Descending colon is the bottom part of the abdomen and it ends in the sigmoid colon, rectum and anus.
After the digestion is completed remaining waste is known as stools or faeces which held in rectum until stools or faeces passes from the body through the anus. Lymph glands are the lymph nodes which are part of the lymphatic system and close to the bowel.
Generally bowel cancers are develops in larger bowel in which two thirds are in the colon and one-third in the rectum.
